Wilberforce Sixth Form College was opened in 1988 and has become one of the leading colleges in the North East of England. Attracting students from all over the area to study from an impressive array of courses Wilberforce College offers.

The College has really exciting plans for expansion and continues to invest in its student’s futures with the latest technology and ever-evolving course options.

The Challenge

Wilberforce Sixth Form College approached us to discuss the design and development of a new website.

Their old site wasn’t providing the user journey and engagement Wilberforce wanted and needed to help grow their online student base.

As one of the most highly regarded and respected Colleges in the are, Wilberforce constantly have to ask themselves questions about what they are offering and do students get the education they deserve. We really liked the way they worked and strived to give the students, not only an outstanding education but huge amounts of support every step of the way.

we knew that the new website had to be user-friendly but more than that, had to engage and re-engage with current students and potential students. It had to be their organiser, planner, and source of information whilst they studied at Wilberforce.

The Solution

This was a project very close to our hearts as quite a few members of our team had studied and graduated from Wilberforce so understood the fabric of the college and what it wanted to achieve.

We started with an extensive planning stage involving desired goals and achievements, brainstorming sessions, mood boards and a design workshop to really drag out every idea, hope, and desire for the new website.

Once we had created our designs we worked with Wilberforce to make sure they fell in what they envisaged and hoped for.

Development was done in teams and built to ensure that the college staff could edit and change anything they wanted quickly and easily. College life is hectic and fast paced so this ease of use was essential.

The project went very well and we, and more importantly, Wilberforce are delighted with the result.

Mobius designed and built our new website. They listened to what we wanted in a website and made it even better. It is professional and easy to use. We have had lots of positive feedback and it has helped us to be able to communicate effectively with everyone as well as projecting a professional image for the college. The Tech

Wilberforce college had to have a user-friendly CMS that was flexible, scalable and allowed for staff to easily manipulate the website.

With 3rd party integrations needed we felt WordPress was going to be the best option and after discussing this with the client they agreed.

The Stats

One of the main reasons for the new website was online growth and a stronger presence for potential and existing students.

We recognise a beautiful website, although beautiful is nothing if it isn’t functional and achieving the aims and goals needed from it. The new Wilberforce website needed to perform and had to deliver on the aims and goals set out at the beginning of the project. This has definitely happened and will continue to help drive the college forward reaching new levels of engagement and interactions.

With thousands of potential students looking for the next step in their career path, we helped Wilberforce increase website visits by 20%. This has helped Wilberforce grow and hopefully will continue to do so.
Mobius provided onsite training to the staff to create superusers who can then pass that knowledge on to other members of staff allowing Wilberforce to be in full control of their website. This was something they didn't previously have.
Wilberforce has engaged with more students this year then ever and has expanded into more area's geographically than in previous years. This is in part to the interest around the college which is now publicised in a student-friendly way on their new website. It can only help Wilberforce in the coming years become even bigger and better than they already are. Oxford, Cambridge - you have been warned!
