Hull KR Project

Hull Kingston Rovers are a professional rugby league club playing in the English Super League. They employed us to design and develop a new website, E-commerce online shop which integrated with there in-store systems and a paid for TV streaming App.

The Challenge

HKR wanted to completely re-invent there online persona and brand. Their old site was dated and didn’t follow in the direction HKR wanted to take its public image and branding. They wanted to include the new “paint the town red” branding and use that as the foundation for the new site and shop.

HKR also needed a solution that allowed the shop to integrate with the in-store systems making the buying process a really easy to manage excellent user experience but also allowed for powerful reporting tools to be utilised.

The TV streaming App needed d to integrate with the website and had to allow fans to be able to purchase through the App or the website. We also had to migrate existing memberships across to the new app without affecting their service.

The challenge was set……

The Solution

Firstly we researched and played around with a few ideas to see which e-commerce platform would best suit Hull KR’s needs but also make it a really easy UX experience for customers.

After some time we finally decided on a Bespoke design built on the Shopify platform using Shopify point of sale to integrate with the in-store systems. This ticked all of the boxes HRK needed to address. We assisted by going on site and setting the Shopify point of sale up to work with HKR’s hardware.

The website was built on the WordPress platform mainly due to the fact it is a really simple platform for clients to use. We went through our design process with HKR and developed the new site. As we all sites we design and build we had to take scalability and optimization into account when designing the site.

The App was designed and built with iOS and Android platforms in mind. We worked with HKR to add some new features and to integrate the app with the new website.

The last job was to migrate the existing users from the old app to the new app without affecting their current membership.

“The team at Mobius provided two purpose-built websites incorporating all of our club, retail and TV requirements and we found them to be enthusiastic, approachable and an all-round pleasure to work with over a six-month period. “The diversity of expertise amongst their people ensured it was a smooth transition from our old platforms, as well as a huge increase in quality, appearance, usability and SEO functionality, and their specialist knowledge made moving pay-per-view content and data from external sites such as PayPal a much simpler process than we initially feared. “Put together, it’s resulted in a significant increase in page impressions and time spent on site – two key factors that we had targeted. “This was the first time we’ve worked with Mobius but it won’t be the last as it’s already developed into a much broader partnership for both parties.”

The Tech

The technologies we use are always thoroughly evaluated and considered in conjunction with the client’s needs and future scalability.

The HKR projects needed to be flexible and scalable but retain powerful back office features that were also easy for the client to use.

Results Driven Performance

Hull KR place a huge demand on their commercial endeavors as this provides a huge amount of operating capital.

We worked with them on the three projects to ensure the work we did together delivered the results they needed to push the commercial revenue to the next level and created a platform for new opportunities.

The Stats

HKR is a business as well as a professional sports club so are results driven in every sense of the words.

The work we engaged in with Hull KR had to be commercially rewarding and needed to create a platform for future digital opportunities. They recognised the need for a better digital presence and also the need to ensure it worked for them as a business. What we delivered exceeded original expectations.

The new website delivered an average 2000 new page impressions a month. We also monitored the site for user bottlenecks for the first 2 months as usability is key.
Hull Kingston Rovers new shop was a major project for them and needed to deliver results. The first 3 months saw a 28% increase in revenue, mainly due to the easy sales process built into the site.
HKR TV was the biggest challenge as current members needed to be migrated without destabilising current memberships. The new App exceeded our expectations with a 22% increase in monthly users for the first 3 months.
