Steven Cartmell has more than 25 years of mens clothing retail experience. When he opened his new shop in Hessle his idea was to create a place where men could come to find the best brands in the latest styles and shop in a comfortable and sophisticated environment.

Cartmell Menswear has achieved that and more, boasting an amazing stock, a friendly and helpful sales team and a convenient and easy place to shop. The downstairs casual clothing collection has everything a man needs for day-to-day and holiday outfitting, from shoes, belts and undergarments to an amazing range of polos and casual jackets and blazers from brands like HUGO BOSS, Jacob Cohen, Armani, Matchless, Loake, Mastai Ferreti, Fynch Hatton, Brax and Circle of Gentlemen . We also carry a fantastic selection of leather jackets from many fine makers including the latest ranges from MATCHLESS of London.

The Challenge

Cartmells menswear in Hessle, East Yorkshire has become an institution in the last 20 years with people coming from all over the area to buy the latest globally sourced male fashion items.

The luxury store has built up not only an enviable reputation but a loyal and impressive client base that they have worked hard to gain. Their clothes are handpicked and sourced from countries such as Italy and are all high-end brands.

Cartmells wanted a new website that followed and showed their outstanding retail store and reflected their brand and standards. They also wanted us to help think of a way of showcasing the store for people who wouldn’t usually be in the area and may not know of the store or its products.

The Solution

We really enjoyed solving the challenges Cartmells had set us and working with them to find a really good result for them that met the companies goals and plans for the near future.

Firstly we had to conceive a way of showcasing the store for people who would necessarily know Cartmells or what it sold. We felt this was the biggest problem so we tackled this one head on. The outstanding imagery was a must but we felt a 360 tour would really help people engage with the store and for potential clients to get a real feel for the store before visiting.

We designed the store with a Pinterest theme reflecting the brand and reputation and giving the business a real clean, modern and luxurious feel. We worked with Cartmells around optimisation and social media marketing providing some training and advice on best practices and campaign ideas.

We picked Mobius to create our new website. From the beginning that proved to be the correct decision as they really made the effort to connect with and understand our business and what we wanted to achieve with the website. Our brand and look of our business is very important to us and Mobius embraced that and improved it building on what we already had and taking us to the next level from an online perspective. We are absolutely delighted with the result and over the moon, we picked Mobius to work with. They really do listen and offer advice but aren't overpowering with it. We really can't recommend these guys highly enough and wouldn't hesitate in working with them on future projects.

The Tech

Cartmells wanted an easy to use and visually stunning website. We chose WordPress as the cms because we could provide some training and almost everyone can pick the basics up very quickly regardless of your IT ability.

We also integrated Mailchimp for data capture as the site was not an online shop but worked on an appointment basis. We had to ensure we were GDPR compliant and that the website worked correctly on mobile devices which due to its design added some work to the project.

Cartmell’s wanted something to showcase their beautiful location and the inside of the boutique.

The best way for us is through imagery and to take that one step further we decided a 360 Google tour would allow people to get a feel for the store before visiting it.

The Stats

Cartmells have been established for many years and have built an enviable reputation throughout the area with customers coming from far and wide for there globally sourced fashion.

The guys at Cartmell had never utilised there brand or reputation on social media or through their old website. We introduced them to various ways of promoting themselves and how to monitor, record and action the data they received back.

Cartmells have been proactive in monitoring their Google Analytics over the last 2 years. The new website has realised a 16% increase in site traffic in the first 3 months of launch. The website has also had a lot of people signing up for the latest offers and following the business on social media.
Social media is a huge driver for engaging with potential clients and for spreading the word regarding your business. Promoting yourself online through social media is vital and something we have discussed with Cartmells who were not active enough in promoting themsleves.
The new website had opened Cartmells eyes to the possibilities if they market their business more online. They have already seen the benefits in the first three months and are actively engaging with more and more potential and existing clients than ever before.
