The Mobius monkeys have been a bit cheeky this week – yes, we’ve literally bitten the hand that feeds us.
Our head developer, being somewhat of a prankster, couldn’t resist combining the latest prank with a glaring marketing opportunity.
As a team, we quite frequently eat at a spot across the road known simply as the ‘Spud Van’ – a food van ran by Mr and Mrs Spud who, on frequent trips for a pulled pork sarny or a potato so big it has it’s own gravitational pull, the Mobius team have come to know rather well. And so, on conspiring with Mrs Spud, we managed to get our hands on a rather…indecent…picture of the proprietor donning some bright yellow Speedos which we naturally had to blow up for an amusing marketing opportunity. “Operation Budgie” if you will.
The Perfect Marketing Package
Of course, good marketing always begins with a good idea. Operation Budgie worked really well in this instance – a lot of people frequent the Spud Van for the infamous couple and the banter that comes along with the service and many customers will feel they know them personally. This is why we exposed poor Mr Spud – not only the publicity and a great photo opportunity for Spud Man but wider exposure for Mobius Media too.
The Right Kind of Exposure
Not that we have any major plans to indecently expose professionals all over Hull (not yet anyway) but it just goes to show how you can turn a simple idea into a marketing campaign.
So if you run your own business here in Hull, or anywhere for that matter, how can you begin to put together your marketing package? Short of stripping down to your undies, how can you achieve the best exposure?
Well that’s what we’re here for! With innovative ideas, strategic planning and a whole lot of creative skill, we can ensure that your marketing campaign is as endowed as possible (urgh, sorry I’ll stop it now).
The Big 4
Our marketing plan focuses around ‘The Big 4’: these will provide you with the ‘bare bones’ of what you’re going to need in order to make your online marketing a success.
One of the first things you think about when starting up a business (as it’s usually one of the most fun aspects) is Design. Often teamed with branding, this involves extensive market research to carefully map out your place in the industry.
Do you want to go with a traditional look for your market? Or do you want to be the ones to stand out from the crowd? Does your design reflect your service? Can your logo carry across a wide variety of platforms? And is it instantly recognizable? With your design having more exposure than ever thanks to technology, these are just a few things to think about when it comes to getting the perfect look for your business.
When you have your perfect design, what better way to display it than on your own website. Development, once heavily taken over by the influence of design, now also has to function in response to consumer preference. This means good responsive design and development to suit you and your audience’s needs. So who are your audience? What devices are they most likely to be searching for your services on? And how can you best ensure calls to action? These are all things to think about when having your site developed.
This will all have a knock on effect with your SEO or Search Engine Optimisation. You want to be at the top of Google’s rankings and there are many ways to achieve this. One of the main ways however, which is often overlooked or not understood as a major ranking factor is the quality of your website build. It has to meet W3C standards. There are many ways in which you can ‘manipulate’ your natural search engine results, but many are being thrown out or regarded as ‘black hat’ techniques. The best thing to think about is having great web structure and consistent, quality content – this will work alongside your SEO & PPC campaigns to ensure the best results.
A little exposure never hurt anyone, right Mr Spud? Well, as a business, you now have the opportunity to interact with your customers in a way never before possible. Social media is a great way to pull together all your efforts and expand your reach to the biggest possible audience. Some companies do fear how ‘going social’ will impact their business but as long as you have all the other elements in place and decide on a clear, precised social strategy, your business can expand it’s branding with a daily ‘voice’. An opportunity not to be missed. Oh, and while we’re talking social, follow Mr Spud!
